In a highly complex humanitarian reality, restoring basic services and rehabilitating vital infrastructure stands as one of the most critical challenges facing the Establishment Government in the areas under its control. With daily life eroded by protracted conflict, infrastructure maintenance and resource security have become urgent priorities that cannot be postponed. These projects go far beyond the simple provision of services—they touch the very core of local community stability.
Reviving the health sectors
The health sector has witnessed tangible progress through the launch of impactful initiatives to reactivate central hospitals and rural health centres that had fallen into disuse. This was achieved by building technical and logistical partnerships with international and local humanitarian organisations. These collaborations have contributed to providing vital medical supplies, operating emergency rooms, and securing alternative power sources such as generators and solar energy systems—ensuring the continuity of cold chains for life-saving serums and medications.
Securing livelihoods and food security
In parallel with the restoration of medical facilities, securing livelihoods has emerged as a cornerstone for safeguarding food security. Joint security patrols have been deployed to protect rural markets and trade convoys from bandits.
This intervention extended beyond commercial centres to include the migration routes of herders and farmers, securing the agricultural season and containing seasonal flashpoints. As a result, the frequency of civil conflicts has decreased, and mechanisms for peaceful coexistence have been strengthened through joint committees and local administrations.
Rehabilitating essential infrastructure
In terms of infrastructure, efforts have focused on maintaining water supply networks by rehabilitating hand pumps and central water stations to prevent shortages and the spread of epidemics.
This has been coupled with the levelling and maintenance of dirt roads and vital bridges connecting towns and main markets—facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid and supplies to communities in need.
A fragile progress
Despite these initiatives, which have breathed some life back into daily life, the sustainability of these achievements remains fragile. It depends on the availability of stable funding and the ability to keep service facilities neutral amidst military tensions.
In an environment still suffering from resource scarcity and increasing humanitarian pressures, the road ahead remains challenging. Yet, each step forward is a victory for the communities determined to rebuild their lives.
