Launched by King Mswati III, an initiative in favor of social housing for the most vulnerable is taking shape on the ground. In response to the royal call to provide decent housing for underprivileged families, several house-building programs have been undertaken in partnership with the government, the National Disaster Risk Management Authority (NDRMA), and other partners.
This royal policy translates into tangible achievements, as exemplified by the houses built for vulnerable elderly people in the Mpolonjeni constituency.
These homes, designed to offer comfort and dignity to beneficiaries, are equipped with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a dining room, with water and electricity installed for a modern living environment.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Thulisile Dladla, conducted an evaluation visit of these homes to report to the authorities, as she was instructed.
Beyond mere shelter, entire lives are transformed for the beneficiaries. In the Shiselweni region, four vulnerable families received keys to decent homes, equipped with water tanks and essential amenities, during an official ceremony.
The story of Gogo Emelinah Shabangu, an octogenarian blind woman living with her grandchildren, illustrates the emotional and human impact of this initiative. « When I touched the walls, I felt satisfaction at finally owning a decent home after so much suffering, » she said, with tears in her eyes.
King Mswati III has also expressed his wish that every emaSwati, especially the elderly, may live in decent housing. Deputy Prime Minister Dladla, who oversees the project, emphasized that these homes are gifts from His Majesty, and that no one should evict the beneficiaries.
The royal initiative is seen as a guarantee of national stability, reaffirming a steadfast commitment to social development. Through this gesture, King Mswati III demonstrates that a nation’s greatness is also measured by its ability to protect and offer a dignified life to its most vulnerable citizens.
