Côte d’Ivoire: ANA honors Guillaume soro for electoral fair play and pan-African commitment

The African NGO ANA, “Aimons Notre Afrique,” has recognized Guillaume Kigbafori Soro for his approach to electoral competition and his commitment to political stability in Côte d’Ivoire and across Africa.

The organization created its Electoral Fair Play Award to encourage tolerance, civic responsibility and respect for democratic principles during elections. The distinction seeks to promote peaceful political behavior and help prevent tensions that can follow electoral contests.

In particular, the award recognizes political leaders and candidates who demonstrate restraint during difficult electoral periods. It also encourages defeated candidates to accept electoral outcomes peacefully and place national stability above personal political interests.

Guillaume Soro became the first recipient of the award. His recognition was linked to his role in the Ivorian political process and his decision to support the electoral process through its conclusion.

According to the philosophy behind the award, political influence should not be used to create further conflict. Instead, leaders are encouraged to prioritize dialogue, institutional stability and the interests of their countries.

Later, the distinction was renamed the “Guillaume Kigbafori Soro Electoral Fair Play Award.” It was subsequently presented to other African figures whose actions were associated with mediation, peace and political stability.

Among the later recipients was former Burkinabè President Blaise Compaoré, who received the renamed award in Abidjan in 2012. His recognition highlighted his involvement in regional mediation and efforts aimed at promoting peace in West Africa.

Beyond individual personalities, the award reflects ANA’s broader vision. The organization seeks to promote tolerance, dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful solutions to political disputes across the continent.

The recognition of Guillaume Soro therefore goes beyond an electoral distinction. It represents an appeal for African political leaders to place peace and national unity above political confrontation.

Through this initiative, ANA promotes a model of leadership based on responsibility, dialogue and respect for democratic processes. The organization presents these values as essential to building a more stable and united Africa.
