Guinea has formally proposed a joint bid with Senegal to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Senegalese newspaper Sud Quotidien. The Guinean Football Federation sent a letter to its Senegalese counterpart in late July, arguing that a shared bid would strengthen both nations’ chances.
The move comes after Guinea was stripped of the 2025 tournament in September 2022 due to infrastructure delays Morocco later stepped in as host.
A logical partnership
In its proposal, Guinea highlighted the geographical proximity between the two countries, the ability to pool stadiums and logistics, and deep historical ties. A joint bid would also ease the financial burden of hosting a tournament that demands world-class facilities.
Senegal, which last hosted AFCON in 1992, is already building significant infrastructure for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games—the first Olympic event ever held in Africa. That platform could give a joint bid added credibility.
Guinea, meanwhile, has never hosted the tournament despite being awarded the 2025 edition.
Still early days
Senegal has yet to formally respond to the proposal, and CAF will not decide on the 2032 host for some time. But if the two nations join forces, it could mark a new chapter in West African football and a redemption story for Guinea.
