Nazi-Boni University in Bobo-Dioulasso witnessed a landmark day on Friday. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, personally inaugurated the university’s first amphitheatre complex.
The facility was built under the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All, known as IPEQ. The inauguration marks the concrete launch of a programme aimed at improving higher education across the country.
For students and teachers, the new infrastructure represents a major change. It replaces overcrowded classrooms and packed university corridors with modern learning facilities.
The complex includes a 1,200-seat main amphitheatre. It also has four smaller amphitheatres, each with a capacity of 210 students. In addition, six modern laboratories can accommodate more than 100 students during practical sessions.
As a result, the new facilities are expected to improve both teaching and practical training. They will also give students better opportunities to combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on experimentation.
Furthermore, the upper floor houses an educational block with offices and meeting rooms. It also includes a video surveillance room, adding administrative and security facilities to the modern complex.
However, the significance of the project goes beyond Bobo-Dioulasso. The university complex is part of an initial group of 12 infrastructure projects currently under construction across Burkina Faso.
Ultimately, the IPEQ programme aims to build 40 such complexes throughout the country. The objective is to provide more balanced access to educational infrastructure between the capital and other regions.
Therefore, thousands of additional seats and new laboratories are expected to strengthen the country’s higher education system. These facilities could also allow future generations of Burkinabe students to gain more practical experience in science.
For now, the project reflects the government’s determination to invest in education despite the country’s ongoing security challenges. Step by step, the initiative seeks to prepare Burkina Faso’s young people for a stronger academic and scientific future.
