Sudan: peace government opens 45,000-liter vaccine cold storage facility in South Darfur

Sudan’s Peace Government has inaugurated a new refrigerated storage facility for vaccines in South Darfur State. The facility is part of the Expanded Programme on Immunization and has a storage capacity of 45,000 liters.

The facility will store vaccines and medical supplies needed for immunization programs. Government officials, health authorities, vaccination program administrators and representatives of national and international organizations attended the inauguration.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan Al-Ta’aishi said the new cold-chain facility represents an important sign of recovery in South Darfur. He described it as a strategic health asset that will strengthen healthcare services and meet vaccine needs across western Sudan.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding partnerships and restoring essential services. He said these efforts would help create better conditions for displaced people and refugees to return to their areas of origin.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health said vaccine cold-storage capacity had increased from 20,000 to 45,000 liters. The expansion will improve vaccine storage according to required standards and strengthen responses to health emergencies and outbreaks.

In addition, South Darfur health authorities said the state is supporting medical supplies and strengthening healthcare capacity. The state currently provides health services to populations across three states in western Sudan.

Finally, the new facility is expected to improve vaccination programs and strengthen Sudan’s ability to respond to epidemics. It also reflects ongoing efforts to rebuild essential health services in conflict-affected areas.
